Included with the album is a double sided insert, with one side featuring original GRADIUS artwork from the Konami archive and the other side featuring liner notes from Retronauts' Jeremy Parish. The revival of one of the great classics in side-scrolling blast-em-ups. Graphically, it does to Gradius what Symphony of the Night did for Castlevania. The Gradius Gaiden Original Game Soundtrack is probably the most diverse of the Gradius scores but also probably the most rounded.

This MSX version has never been officially released outside of Japan, and the soundtrack used the Konami SCC+ chip for enchanced audio, so this versions inclusion is a real treat for fans of the series. Gradius Gaiden is the perfect example of how to evolve a series. Included on this record is both the 1986 Famicom/NES soundtrack on Side A and the 1989 enhanced MSX port on Side B.
This soundtrack introduced multiple themes that would become not only repeated throughout the series, but undisputed classics in the realm of shoot-em-up tunes. The soundtrack concludes with a cheesy but appropriate jazz meets orchestra end credits theme and its low-key remix for the name entry theme.
